I'm about to buy a 1999 Holden Rodeo single cab ute, turbo diesel. The owner barely drove it so he said he had no idea how much fuel it consumed, but he barely put any diesel in it. My old 1988 single cab 2WD petrol Hilux was a thirsty bloody thing, only getting me around 340km per tank without pushing it beyond 'empty'. I know diesel goes further, but I've only ever owned petrol. I'm not after a fast car, just something to get me out bush to go fishing and back without a jerry-can and a re-fueling on the way back home. Will the Rodeo be an improvement?

I've heard that they can chew up petrol pretty bad as well, but I can't seem to find anything on turbo-diesel Rodeos (older models mind you). Doesn't the single cab tank hold 75ish and the dual hold 63? My fuel gauge does 500km from full to half a tank, and then a very quick 200-250 to empty haha. When I first got my ute and I did 500 and it hit half way I nearly pissed my pants from excitement lol. My previous rodeo was a 2.6l petrol, and half a tank would be about 200km, and then empty with another 200 so I know what you mean about your old toyota. Do what mudchaser says, and change the oil every 5000, it states it in the owners manual too.

Pretty sure the manual says do the filter every 10000 but your under there already so I do it every 5000 anyway, they only cost bout $17 if you a buy a ryco each time from supercheap (but there are better ones out there then ryco) Mudchaser, do you have a 2 1/2' exhaust on yours? download free 2016 Honda Vt750 Owners Manual more.
